A tiny hamlet, 16 km northwards of Kaza, Langza village is one of the most beautiful valleys in Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh. Placed at an altitude of 4325 m above the sea level, this village is known for its charming scenery, pre-historic buildings, and old monasteries. The village is enveloped by snow-capped peaks, green meadows, and barren plains, offering some wonderful views. Visit this lovely place and get awed.

Highlights

Langza hamlet is segregated into 2 parts- Langza Gongma (upper), and Langza Yongma (lower). The village is home to around 137 people whose main livelihood are business and agriculture. The locals of the village are known to produce vessels in all sizes and shapes as well as different crafts like carpets, shawls etc. for extra earnings. There is also an ancient temple or Lang, known to be the headquarters of all the Deities of the Valley.

Langza gets covered with thick snow and gets disconnected from the nearby region. During the winter season, the temperatures can go below zero, when doing even the necessary daily chores becomes difficult. Once the snow melts, the whole area turns lush and beautiful.

Attractions

The village is guarded by a huge statue of Lord Buddha, an old monastery, and a number of mud houses, which are worth-visiting. The temple behind the statue is said to be over 500 years old. You can opt for a hike to some of the high-altitude lakes around the village. Langza also offers opportunities of trekking, and mountaineering.

The village is also a popular site for being a treasure house of fossils of plants and marine animals, which were found the region, millions of years ago. Thus, the village is anthropologists and geologists, every year. It is said that the Spiti valley had submerged in Tethys Sea millions of years ago whose prehistoric proofs can also be seen in Tangza. These fossils are around 100 -millions years old and is around a half-hour walk away. Therefore, the place is frequently visited by historians, and archeologists.
